Funders Together to End Homelessness – Baltimore is hosting a special conversation with Jeff Olivet, Executive Director of the United States Interagency Council on Homelessness (USICH) and Dr. Joe Savage, Regional Advisor for USICH, about the newly released federal strategic plan to prevent and end homelessness, “All In.” This new plan establishes a goal to reduce homelessness by 25% by the end of 2025. This is an opportunity to learn together about the plan and understand how it connects with local priorities and investments. Irene Agustin, Director of the Mayor’s Office of Homeless Services and Janice Miller, Chair of the Continuum of Care, will provide insight about how the plan will affect work in Baltimore to make homelessness rare and brief.
Maryland Philanthropy Network’s Health Funders Affinity Group is pleased to host Maryland Department of Health’s Secretary Laura Herrera Scott for a conversation about the Secretary’s vision for the Department and its strategies to promote lifelong health and wellness for all Marylanders. She will speak on their efforts to promote and improve the health and safety of Maryland residents of all ages through disease prevention, access to care, quality management, and community engagement.
The Baltimore Sun reports that the Maryland Transit Administration has “proposed to slash its bus service in the Baltimore region next year by 20% — eliminating 25 bus lines and reducing service on 12 others — due to falling fare revenue and reduced funding from other sources caused by the coronavirus pandemic.” Join us for a conversation with advocates about the cuts and possible alternatives, and to get an update on the advocacy work that is underway.

Join Maryland Philanthropy Network for a conversation with Dr. William “Brit” Kirwan, member of the new state-level Accountability and Implementation Board (AIB) and former chairman of the Commission on Innovation and Excellence in Education (also known as the Kirwan Commission) that resulted in the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future, which is now law. Dr. Kirwan will provide an update on the role of the AIB with the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future, expectations for the Blueprint with respect to impacting K-12 education, how the Blueprint addresses equity in education, and implications for the work ahead. We will also explore ways to engage the philanthropic community in supporting the effort around the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future. Dr. Kirwan will be joined by Rachel Hise, Executive Director of the Accountability and Implementation Board. Previously, Ms. Hise served as a long-time policy analyst for the Department of Legislative Services and was the lead staff person to the Kirwan Commission.
Join Maryland Philanthropy Network’s Education Funders Affinity Group for a conversation about the Comprehensive Implementation Plan for the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future. We will explore questions around the implications of the plan for Maryland schools and ways the philanthropic community can be supportive. Maryland Philanthropy Network’s Community Investment Affinity Group is pleased to host Alice Kennedy, Commissioner of Baltimore City’s Department of Housing and Community Development for a conversation about the Department’s work to improve the quality of life for all Baltimore City residents by revitalizing and redeveloping communities and promoting access to quality affordable housing opportunities in safe, livable neighborhoods. We’ll hear the status of DHCD's aspirational and comprehensive Framework for Community Development, various approaches to address residential vacant properties and the availability of quality affordable housing. We’ll also discuss the role that funders could play in addressing the issue of neighborhoods impacted by high levels of vacancy and disinvestment.
