A Conversation with Dr. Karen Salmon, Maryland’s State Superintendent of Schools

Friday, June 12, 2020, 9:00 - 10:00 AM

The Maryland State Department of Education released a draft of Maryland Together: Maryland’s Recovery Plan for Education which details phases of restore, reconstruct and redesign. When it comes to a safe re-opening of schools, each jurisdiction has its own journey. Maryland Philanthropy Network is pleased to host Dr. Karen Salmon, State Superintendent of Schools, for a briefing about philanthropy’s role moving forward followed by discussion. Dr. Salmon will address questions such as the availability of state funding to address the digital divide, contingency plans should the pandemic return full force in the next school year and how MSDE is thinking about the community schools strategy in reconstruction and redesign.

When you think about what schools can and should be for all of Maryland, what does the state need to do? What does MPN’s membership need to do? How do we support one another to work for equitable outcomes at all levels of implementation—from classroom and community to funding to policy.

While there will be time for discussion using the chatbox function at the end of the briefing, please send any questions to Joyce Bartlett prior to the program.

This program is for Maryland Philanthropy Network members and invited guests only.
