Green Funders Affinity Group: Continuing the Conversation about Chemical Reform

Green Funders Affinity Group: Continuing the Conversation about Chemical Reform

Tuesday, June 28, 2011, 1:00 - 2:30 PM

On May 19th, advocates, public health, and foundation people came together to share concerns related to the intersection of environment and health. The Maryland Philanthropy Network Green Funders hosted a meeting with Dr. Sandra Steingraber to facilitate discussion about topics on which she is vocal: chemical reform, the health impact of hydrofracking, and environmental threats to reproductive health. Both funders and advocates share a deep interest in continuing this conversation and we invite you to join us as we explore issues related chemical reform and learn what is happening around the country.

Sarah Doll, National Coordinator of SAFER States, will speak with us via video teleconference about how other states have been moving forward on chemical reform. SAFER States is "a coalition of states who are in the lead in championing solutions to protect public health and communities from toxic chemicals." Maryland is one of those states, with a pending proposal for comprehensive chemical reform which will come up for consideration next session.

What can we learn from other states? What groups are concerned about children's exposure to chemicals? How does winning protection from "toxic trespass" relate to other health, education, and environmental goals?

This program is for Maryland Philanthropy Network members and invited guests only.
