Americans overwhelmingly support legislation to allow everyone to receive a tax break for their charitable gifts, according to a poll released Tuesday by Independent Sector, a membership organization of nonprofits that is pushing the idea. It is possible that Congress will vote to expand charitable deductions in a pending disaster funding package, but the biggest obstacle is the calendar. Congress has a limited time to consider legislation before going into recess for the entire month of October before the November midterm elections.

During last year's Green Funders Legislative Debrief, the Maryland Climate Partners Coalition Steering Committee provided an update to funders on the progress of implementing the Climate Solutions Now Act. In collaboration with Chesapeake Bay Funders Network, Maryland Philanthropy Network's Green Funders Affinity Group invites you to learn more about what's next for this work as the Climate Partners track progress on state goals, educate key stakeholders, and advocate for the full enactment of all components of the law.
This report written by Tracey Rutnik and Buffy Beaudoin-Schwartz at the Maryland Philanthropy Network in 2003 highlights how today's donors want an engaging philanthropic experience - and how despite the tight economy, donors are opening their checkbooks and their schedules to participate in giving circles.
