The philanthropic sector faced massive shifts over the past two years. The pandemic prompted some funders to increase payouts and loosen — or entirely lift — grant restrictions, while the racial reckoning forced many to confront the imminent need to shift power dynamics, increase internal diversity, and act with intention to support organizations led by and serving people of color.
This year Maryland Philanthropy Network is reuniting for our first in-person meeting since 2019 to celebrate our 40th Anniversary! MPN members are invited to join us for a morning of reconnection, celebration, and updates on the vibrant activities of our network. We are excited to have Susan Taylor Batten, president and chief executive officer of ABFE: A Philanthropic Partnership for Black Communities, as our keynote speaker to inspire and challenge us as we continue working together for an equitable and just Maryland.
At the Maryland Philanthropy Network, we believe that authentic relationships between nonprofit organizations and funders are key to sustainable social change.
The 2023 Legislative Session in Maryland will address major issues affecting nonprofits and the people and communities we serve, including the funding of education, the impact of federal policies on Maryland’s government services, and protection of health and the environment. Join Maryland Philanthropy Network and Maryland Nonprofits for this informational program to learn what other funders will be working on, policy issues affecting nonprofits, how the legislature will function, and the state budget.
At this program, panelists will describe how the cases of unaccompanied children and vulnerable immigrant adults are being handled by the legal services community, as well as the efforts taken to address their mental health and other basic needs. They will also discuss the Multi-Ethnic Domestic Violence Project (MEDOVI), which creates an avenue for victims who are immigrants and their children to get legal status; and how Maryland’s legal community is gearing up to serve even more immigrants.
All children, especially older children in foster care, need and deserve a loving family to support their lifelong growth.
This Arts Funders Affinity Group meeting will feature remarks by Nicholas Cohen, Executive Director of Maryland Citizens for the Arts and Steven Skerritt-Davis, Executive Director of the Maryland State Arts Council followed by Q&A and discussion providing members a chance to voice their concerns, share updates on their priorities, and discuss any shifts in funding allocations. We invite all funders who care about a strong, vibrant arts and culture sector to this opportunity to exchange perspectives about the arts landscape.
