Recently, I had the opportunity to participate in a thought-provoking, poignant and powerfully packaged event hosted by the Maryland Philanthropy Network for Baltimore Area Grantmakers (Maryland Philanthropy Network). This event included a discussion by Kevin Shird and Nelson Malden, authors of the recently published book The Colored Waiting Room: Empowering the Original and the New Civil Movements followed by a panel discussion on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
The Commission is to review and assess current education financing formulas and accountability measures and how each local school system spends its funds, including the increased State funds provided through the Bridge to Excellence in Public Schools Act. Moreover, the Commission will review the Study on Adequacy of Funding for Education in the State of Maryland, required by the Bridge to Excellence in Public Schools Act. The Women’s Giving Circle of Frederick County announces that 39 grants totaling $210,000 have been presented to 24 area nonprofits serving women and children. The grants were presented during the 13th annual event held in June.
