Over the course of a year, Philanthropy New York's Leadership Transitions Funders Group has engaged a group of NYC-based funders in building a community of practice. The goal has been to strengthen funder practices around supporting nonprofits going through leadership transitions and to more broadly address transition patterns or moments as they arise within the movements/fields we support.
What we’ve learned about funder behavior and funder practices transcends the space of supporting leadership transitions. In other words, adopting holistic funding practices and supporting organizational capacity strengthens the nonprofit sector, period.

To kick off 2022, the Arts Funders Affinity Group is pleased to welcome Eddie Torres, president & CEO of Grantmakers in the Arts. In late 2020 and again in mid-2021, Grantmakers in the Arts (GIA) surveyed their members about recent and upcoming changes in arts grantmaking practices in response to the pandemic and the movement for Black lives. Eddie will share his national perspective of arts grantmaking and discuss the findings from GIA’s latest survey. We’ll then bring it home with a brief update from Nicholas Cohen from Maryland Citizens for the Arts and have a whole group sharing session about our grantmaking practice and if it reflects the national trends in increased giving, flexibility, support for individual artists, and support for BIPOC organizations. Will also identify opportunities for collaboration and continued learning.

The Prenatal-to-Five (PN-5) Affinity Group invites Maryland Philanthropy Network members to learn more about the successful campaign to secure Medicaid support for HealthySteps in Maryland, while being updated on the state's infant and early childhood mental health collaborative from Kay Connors, Executive Director, Taghi Modarressi Center for Infant Study at the University of MD School of Medicine. The meeting will also offer updates on upcoming opportunities for funder collaboration to support the Blueprint's Pillar One and strengthen the childcare workforce.
The Prenatal-to-Five (PN-5) Affinity Group was created to help funders who are interested in supporting expectant parents, and children from birth through age five and their families improve their grantmaking by learning more about initiatives, educational research, and best practices.

We are delighted to host Special Secretary Carmel Martin, head of The Governor's Office for Children, for a conversation that focuses on young children and their families. We will discuss the opportunities and challenges facing families and the systems that are intended to support their health, development and well-being. Using the framework for a comprehensive early childhood development system that the Prenatal to Five Funders Group has adopted, the conversation will cover family economics, child care, infant and early childhood mental health, equity and inclusion, early relational health, housing, and the importance of engaging with families and caregivers in the design of system responses. We will explore the implementation of the ENOUGH Act and the Blueprint for Maryland's Future and the ways that both initiatives can work in support of young children and their families reaching their full potential. This is a virtual meeting.

Jeff Griffin, Executive Director of the Franciscan Center, and Eli Allen and Simon Zimmer with Civic Works will talk about their successful and sometimes challenging efforts to build infrastructure, purchase and maintain essential equipment and supplies, and obtain financial support as Resiliency Hub operators.
