Significant changes are being made that affect the landscape of grantmaking and public policy with direct impacts to the sector in our region and communities they serve. Building on several years of collaboration, join Maryland Philanthropy Network and Virginia Funders Network for a gathering of funders from across the region. This will be an opportunity to convene and connect around the current environment impacting nonprofits and communities, what funders are working on, and how funders are responding to this moment.
Maryland Philanthropy Network will celebrate all the administrative professionals in our network with a special luncheon and two-part workshop. Gather with your philanthropic peers to learn about managing up, down, and across the organization from Dr. Rebecca Cisek of the Banium Family Foundation. Then, Terrarium Therapy will lead participants in a workshop to create beautiful, long-lasting succulent terrariums to take back to their offices to enjoy.

Join us as we recognize the work of secretaries, administrative assistants, receptionists, and other office professionals for their contributions to the workplace. Maryland Philanthropy Network’s (MPN) School-Centered Neighborhood Investment Initiative (SCNII) funded a research team to conduct an initial analysis that sought to document the 21CSBP’s implementation process, understand the complex relationships among responsible agencies, and explore the implementation and emerging outcomes of the program in three neighborhoods. Their recent report attempts to answer the question what is – and what should be – the role of a “community school?"
This new report highlights ongoing initiatives to create jobs through economic inclusion in Baltimore. Through interviews, it documents best practices and finds that the strategies create benefits for individuals, businesses and institutions. The report calls for broader participation by businesses and institutions as well as people-focused investments and policies.

The Baltimore Digital Equity Coalition’s 2021 Annual Report highlights the progress they made in 2021. Some of that progress is easy to see, such as the number of issues resolved from callers to the BDEC Tech Support Hotline — Baltimore’s first-ever tech support hotline. Their progress also serves as a reminder of what is still left to do.
BDEC was launched in 2020 amidst the Covid-19 pandemic with the resolve to close the digital divide in Baltimore City. That remains their focus today, and we will work collaboratively to do so through four main goals:

Maryland Philanthropy Network’s School-Centered Neighborhood Investment Initiative funded a research analysis of the 21st Century School Buildings Program efforts. All MPN members are invited to hear from the research team: Ariel H. Bierbaum, MCP, PhD; Erin O’Keefe, MPP; and Alisha Butler, MA; about the report’s findings and the overarching questions they raise about the 21CSBP. These questions bridge their findings with the current context and aim to prompt reflection and additional conversations about the 21CSBP in the face of the “dual pandemics” of COVID-19 and systemic racism in the United States.
