The Baltimore Digital Equity Coalition’s 2021 Annual Report highlights the progress they made in 2021. Some of that progress is easy to see, such as the number of issues resolved from callers to the BDEC Tech Support Hotline — Baltimore’s first-ever tech support hotline. Their progress also serves as a reminder of what is still left to do.
BDEC was launched in 2020 amidst the Covid-19 pandemic with the resolve to close the digital divide in Baltimore City. That remains their focus today, and we will work collaboratively to do so through four main goals:
- Access to Devices;
- Greater Internet Connectivity;
- Digital Skills Training and Technical Support; and
- Advocacy.
The Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore recently announced Robin Evans, Tyrone Mills, Melody Nelson and Sonya Whited have joined the foundation’s Board of Directors.
Early childhood professionals play an essential role in communities, helping young children to develop, supporting working families, and enabling business operations. While affordable and high-quality childcare is critical, the early childcare sector is underfunded and dysfunctional. COVID-19 has exacerbated longstanding issues, exacting a devastating impact on childcare centers and the professionals that staff them. In this program, we will hear more about the issues impacting the early childhood workforce at the individual, employer, and systems levels. We will explore the role of employer collaboration with funders and other stakeholders to advance necessary changes in business practices and public policies to support these essential workers.

The Baltimore Summer Funding Collaborative (the Collaborative) has awarded $5.3 million in grants to support 93 high-quality summer programs for children and youth living in low-income families throughout Baltimore City.

Toniic, a community of funders and asset holders seeking deeper net impact across a spectrum of capital, will also provide an overview of the many types and approaches grant makers can use to leverage capital for good. Kelly Medinger, our most trusted and valued Executive Director of the Knott Foundation for the last decade, has shared her intentions to resign from her post, effective December 31, 2022. Her unwavering dedication to our mission, her institutional knowledge of our Foundation, her keen understanding of family dynamics, and her strong team-building with our executive staff have all contributed greatly towards the growth, focus, and stability of our Catholic family foundation. The Knott Foundation's Board of Trustees is seeking a new Executive Director, who will succeed our current Executive Director upon her departure at the end of 2022.

The Baltimore Workforce Funders Collaborative (BWFC) at Maryland Philanthropy Network is thrilled to launch its new strategic and operating framework. This document sets forth a new vision, mission, and set of values. It recognizes the rich history of the BWFC dating back to 2006 and then sets forth a new set of strategic principles, pillars, and tactics for the future. This framework also lays out a plan for how the Collaborative is structured to operate.

Join us as we recognize the work of secretaries, administrative assistants, receptionists, and other office professionals for their contributions to the workplace.
