I recently attended a Living Cities Integration Initiative site visit to the Twin Cities for some cross-site learning, and saw how affective their collective impact approach is. Through the Corridors of Opportunity initiative, they are working to build and develop a world-class regional transit system focused on seven transit corridors at various stages of operation, construction and planning.

In 2008, City Schools adopted a model for school budgeting called “fair student funding” to put as many dollars as possible directly in schools, whose communities know best what their students need. According to City Schools, a number of changes have occurred since then.

On June 6, Baltimore City announced a month-long request for proposal (RFP) period for the first round of disbursements from the $12 million Baltimore Children and Youth Fund. At the corner of North and Cecil Avenues in Central Baltimore sits the newly constructed home of Roberta’s House. The building represents a transformational investment designed to bring new life to a vacant block that was previously occupied by rowhomes. This piece tells the story of lessons from the Greenmount Life, Opportunity, and Wellness (GLOW) Initiative, a new effort to concentrate financial and social investment in select neighborhoods that have long experienced underinvestment.
