With more than 1,430 foundations in Maryland and a growing landscape of corporate funders, donor-advised funds, giving circles, and public charities, the first step to grant seeking is understanding the basic operations of organized giving.
More than one in four Americans had trouble paying a medical bill and more than half the people who experienced medical bankruptcy stated it was due to hospital bills. At this program, we will explore answers to questions regarding debt collection, patient experiences, the disparate impacts of sex, race, ethnicity, and geography on collections, and promising approaches to aiding those with medical debt.

Maryland Philanthropy Network invites the staff and board members of nonprofit 501(c)3 organizations and social enterprises to our recurring program on foundations and the broader landscape of philanthropy in Maryland. This learning opportunity is most appropriate to new grantseekers and to nonprofit organizations in Baltimore and central Maryland. The webinar provides basic knowledge of foundations and other grantmakers and resources for finding funders/funding opportunities.
Join Maryland Philanthropy Network's Green Funders Affinity Group to learn more about two recent action-oriented reports on climate change efforts in Maryland. Participants will also have an opportunity to discuss with grantmaking colleagues what are they are doing and can do in the climate mitigation and climate justice space. All arts and culture funders are invited to hear Nicholas Cohen, Executive Director, Maryland Citizens for the Arts, share findings from their research and to join in a discussion about the implications of these findings as well shifts in funding and support for the arts throughout Maryland and in Baltimore specifically. We’ll provide ample time for all participants to deepen collaboration by sharing information, current opportunities, lessons learned and queries about supporting the arts in Maryland.

The earnings of Maryland ALICE individuals and families are not enough to support a “survival budget” that is more than twice the Federal Poverty Level (FPL). Join us to hear about ALICE in Maryland, the findings from these reports, and discuss the implications in light of the COVID-19 pandemic and its devastating economic impact on our residents.
A new demographic analysis of 2021-22 school year chronic absence data from the U.S. Department of Education reveals that the pandemic-induced dramatic increase in chronic absence affects students from all backgrounds and localities and is widening inequities. Join Hedy Nai-Lin Chang, Founder and Executive Director of Attendance Works, Larry C. Simmons, Senior Fellow with Attendance Works, and Dr. David Heiber, Founder and Executive Director of Concentric Educational Solutions, to learn about current interventions and innovations, what working, and necessary systemic changes to shift the current high tide of absenteeism.
