Baltimore Community Foundation (BCF) Investment Committee and its Impact Investment Subcommittee announced Invest for More, a new impact investing program making focused, carefully selected investments into companies, organizations, and funds with the intention of generating a measurable, beneficial social impact in our Baltimore region, as well as a financial return.

We are proud to share our Baltimore Workforce Funder Collaborative, along with our local partners, was included among the awardees of The Families and Workers Fund Powering Climate & Infrastructure Careers Challenge! Totaling more than $12 million in grant funding and technical assistance, the Challenge awards will help community organizations and state and local governments tackle the serious workforce challenges facing the United States on its path toward a sustainable economy and 21st-century infrastructure.

The Board of Directors of Maryland Philanthropy Network is pleased to announce Maggie Gunther Osborn as its new President and Chief Executive Officer, effective April 12, 2021. “Through a robust and extensive search process, Maggie was the clear choice as a leader who brings a bird’s eye view of the philanthropic sector, a demonstrated commitment to racial justice, and a vision for supporting philanthropic impact across her home state of Maryland,” shared Carmel Roques, Maryland Philanthropy Network’s Board Chair, in a message to MPN members.

In the 2021-22 school year, only one in three fourth graders in the United States was reading at grade level, only one in four eighth graders was proficient in math, and rates of chronic absence had skyrocketed.

In June, ABFE released We Must be in it for the Long Haul, a call to action to philanthropy to stem anti-Black racism developed in partnership with Black foundations executives across the country.
Shanaysha Sauls, President & CEO of the Baltimore Community Foundation and one of the signatories of the statement, will ground participants in the impetus for the statement and share insight around the significance for MPN’s members. The University of Colorado Denver completed their first phase of an organizational network study to assess the ways in which the BIP partners collaborate with one another, as well as with local businesses, residents, and community-based organizations. Their analysis explores how larger systems and community factors in Baltimore relate to economic inclusion, how economic inclusion is implemented within an Anchor, and what enables or hinders economic inclusion efforts at the Anchor Institutions.
