I recently attended a Living Cities Integration Initiative site visit to the Twin Cities for some cross-site learning, and saw how affective their collective impact approach is. Through the Corridors of Opportunity initiative, they are working to build and develop a world-class regional transit system focused on seven transit corridors at various stages of operation, construction and planning.
The Horizon Foundation awarded more than $1 million in grants in 2017 to community programs advancing the mission to improve health and wellness for people who live or work in Howard County, Md. The grants address community needs and target the Foundation’s strategic priorities to promote healthy lifestyles and increase access to quality, affordable health care.
Realizing the purchasing power of anchor institutions to support local businesses and in turn create jobs is the focus of this new report, Authored by Karp Resources, the report explores food procurement processes in anchor institutions, and identifies a range of strategies to more fully realize local purchasing power. The report recommends actions to support local minority-owned and small businesses, modifications to procurement processes, and outlines legislative opportunities to connect purchasing power to businesses in reinvestment areas.
