Maternal and child health outcomes are determined by a complex series of social and environmental factors. As well, disparities in maternal and child health outcomes exist along racial and socioeconomic lines.
Establishing a scaled fiscal hosting solution for Baltimore through a collaborative process that demonstrates local philanthropic support, strong financial analysis, and grassroots leadership could transform the field. Join us for an exploratory conversation about applying this idea to the recently announced 2030 Racial Equity, W.K. Kellogg Foundation challenge.
So far this year we've heard from a number of public health experts and local leaders at the forefront of the COVID-19 vaccine efforts across the state as well as funders who have taken up advocacy efforts to support this huge undertaking during these bi-weekly calls. Maryland Philanthropy Network’s School-Centered Neighborhood Investment Initiative funded a research analysis of the 21st Century School Buildings Program efforts. All MPN members are invited to hear from the research team: Ariel H. Bierbaum, MCP, PhD; Erin O’Keefe, MPP; and Alisha Butler, MA; about the report’s findings and the overarching questions they raise about the 21CSBP. These questions bridge their findings with the current context and aim to prompt reflection and additional conversations about the 21CSBP in the face of the “dual pandemics” of COVID-19 and systemic racism in the United States.
Over the course of a year, Philanthropy New York's Leadership Transitions Funders Group has engaged a group of NYC-based funders in building a community of practice. The goal has been to strengthen funder practices around supporting nonprofits going through leadership transitions and to more broadly address transition patterns or moments as they arise within the movements/fields we support.
What we’ve learned about funder behavior and funder practices transcends the space of supporting leadership transitions. In other words, adopting holistic funding practices and supporting organizational capacity strengthens the nonprofit sector, period.
The Multisector Plan on Aging Stakeholders Workgroup shares their expertise and knowledge in assisting Maryland Department of Aging with the development of a Maryland State Multisector Plan for Aging (MPA).

WeVision EarlyEd is designed to guide necessary conversations and test ideal solutions, beginning with the District of Columbia and then influencing other communities across the nation. The Abell Foundation, the largest private foundation in Maryland focused on Baltimore City, announced today that Lynn Heller is leaving her role as Vice President of the Foundation and Sheryl Goldstein has been selected to succeed her.
The University of Colorado Denver’s second phase of an organizational network study of the BIP highlights results from extensive interviews with small business, workforce, and community stakeholders. The research brief includes community perspectives on economic inclusion work as well as a range of recommendations for institutions as well as businesses and public partners to consider as they work to implement new hiring, purchasing and investment strategies.
