The Community Foundation of Howard County (CFHoCo) is pleased to announce the appointment of Melissa Curtin as its new President & Chief Executive Officer, effective June 9, 2025.
Significant changes are being made that affect the landscape of grantmaking and public policy with direct impacts to the sector in our region and communities they serve. Building on several years of collaboration, join Maryland Philanthropy Network and Virginia Funders Network for a gathering of funders from across the region. This will be an opportunity to convene and connect around the current environment impacting nonprofits and communities, what funders are working on, and how funders are responding to this moment.
Maryland is home to a diverse array of parenting programs—each designed to support healthy child, parent, and family development in different ways. In this joint program of the Prenatal to Five and Education Funders Affinity Groups, funders will get a clear picture of the statewide landscape and learn how early childhood parenting supports directly influence children’s learning journeys, beginning at birth.

Foundations and nonprofits create more resilient and impactful change when their strategies are shaped by the communities most harmed by inequities. The COVID-19 pandemic taught us invaluable lessons about the importance of community listening and nimble response. In the face of the social sector's recent turmoil, re-applying and building upon those lessons is more urgent than ever. This virtual session will explore how to carry forward best practices from the pandemic to meet today’s challenges. We’ll share strategies–including timely use cases–for responding to shifting community needs. Fellow funders and Listen4Good, a subject matter expert, will share about their successes, challenges, and best practices for centering community voice in grantmaking.

Giving circle leaders are invited the Eighth Annual Giving Circle Connector Gathering. The dozens of giving circles in our region will gather together to connect and learn from one another about a variety of issues important to giving circles.
All grantmakers are invited to participate in this four-part professional development series taught by our region's experienced practitioners, presented by Maryland Philanthropy Network. Session 1 will cover the philanthropic ecosystem. Participants will get to know one another, locate their own foundation or giving program within the broader context of philanthropy, and reflect on their organizations’ areas of interests and goals, as well as ways to communicate with potential grantees and partners.

In recognition of this focus and the desire to align funding around housing stability, Maryland Philanthropy Network members, many of whom are part of the Basic Human Needs Affinity Group decided to transform into a new group comprised of private and public funders, currently called Funders Together to End Homelessness – Baltimore.
Please join Maryland Philanthropy Network and your nonprofit colleagues for a presentation by experienced Certified Public Accountant, Leah Abrams of L. Abrams & Company, LLC. Ms. Abrams will describe the main financial management issues currently facing nonprofits, various approaches to developing a budget, ways to tell the story of your work through numbers, and what funders are looking for in your budget. There will also be time to have your specific questions and concerns answered. You’ll leave with practical tips and resources for further learning about budgeting and nonprofit financial management.
