Join Maryland Philanthropy Network's Education Funders Affinity Group to hear from leaders of Baltimore City Public Schools about strategies and emerging models they are engaging to improve older youth literacy. They will be joined by Theme Reads, a program at the Success for All Foundation in partnership with Johns Hopkins University, who will share information about their model for working with older students, what’s unique about working with high school students, how their work differs from traditional models, their work with Baltimore City Schools, and program outcomes. This session begins a series of upcoming conversations for the fall focusing on high school age youth.

This time in history calls for a different kind of conference – one that helps us make deeper connections to uplift communities. The Baltimore uprising, and protests across the county, highlight the important work of social impact organizations like yours. CONNECTING FOR IMPACT – JUSTICE FOR ALL is rising to the challenge. Featuring small, deep-dive conversations, the conference is focused on asking questions to find solutions.
This is the first session of a 6-part webinar series on trust-based philanthropy focused on addressing common questions, clarifying misconceptions, and exploring ways to overcome obstacles in implementing trust-based philanthropy. In this session, we will clarify the misperception that trust-based philanthropy means unconditional trust and dig into the nuances of why trust is an important vehicle for more equitable funder-grantee relationships. Speakers will share how they have cultivated (and maintained) trust, how they model and reinforce mutual accountability in a trust-based way, and how they have worked through challenging moments when trust breaks down.

When place-based funders from 12 regions across the country formed a learning group in 2020, chronicled in this five-part series, they shared practical, tactical steps to grapple with a range of thorny questions. When they turned to engaging stakeholders, the funders focused on three core challenges to building community partnerships.
