This interactive workshop will provide participants the opportunity to explore the imperatives of ABFE’s 2020 Call to Action: We Must be in It for the Long Haul through their Responsive Philanthropy in Black Communities (RPBC) framework and tools. This will include considering strategies to address a few of the Call-to-Action imperatives via a “test-drive” of at least one of two tools, What’s Race got to Do With It? and the Racial Equity Impact Analysis. This workshop builds on the Introduction to Advancing Racial Equity in Grantmaking being held on May 4th from 1:00 - 5:00 PM and is best suited to those who have attended one of ABFE’s past workshops or are otherwise grounded in concepts regarding racism and race equity.

Part II will focus on Intermediaries and the role they play in facilitating the implementation of Community Schools. We will be joined by the following community school leaders: Chief Tina Hike-Hubbard of Baltimore City Schools,; Khalilah Slater Harrington, Chief Program Officer, Family League of Baltimore; and Dr. Ingrid Williams-Horton, Director of Community Schools, Prince George’s County Public Schools.
Early childhood professionals play an essential role in communities, helping young children to develop, supporting working families, and enabling business operations. While affordable and high-quality childcare is critical, the early childcare sector is underfunded and dysfunctional. COVID-19 has exacerbated longstanding issues, exacting a devastating impact on childcare centers and the professionals that staff them. In this program, we will hear more about the issues impacting the early childhood workforce at the individual, employer, and systems levels. We will explore the role of employer collaboration with funders and other stakeholders to advance necessary changes in business practices and public policies to support these essential workers.

At this briefing, you will hear from authors of the newly released Abell Report on the City’s contracting process and learn about the findings from a joint Middendorf/MPN study on the City’s permitting and grantmaking systems. The goals of the briefing are to share the scale and scope of the challenges, recommend changes, and discuss how funders can support the implementation of these changes in an effort to strengthen and support Baltimore’s non-profit sector.
