Attention all Maryland Philanthropy Network members funding in arts and culture! Please join us at this session where participants will share with one other their current focus areas, some grant information and questions/struggles. Together we will plan learning programs and other activities for the Arts Funders Affinity Group in 2018.
In philanthropy, it’s often assumed that the more money you spend, the bigger the impact you can have.
A new book titled “Participatory Grantmaking in Philanthropy: How Democratizing Decision-Making Shifts Power to Communities,” includes trenchant analysis, case studies penned by leaders at participatory grantmaking practitioners, and evidence-based approaches in areas ranging from climate justice to disability rights.
This session will be an opportunity to reconnect on impact investing, share reflections on national and local conversations, and determine key next areas of learning enabling Maryland Philanthropy Network staff to coordinate relevant ongoing convening of the roundtable.
This meeting is a conversation for education funders who are interested in following up on the priority areas for funding outlined on September 18th by Dr.

This report explores food procurement processes in state and private higher educational institutions in Baltimore and identifies a range of strategies to more fully realize local purchasing power. The report recommends actions to support local minority business enterprises and small businesses, modifications to procurement processes, and outlines legislative opportunities to connect state agency and institutional purchasing power to businesses in targeted reinvestment areas. Many of the recommendations are applicable not just to food but other services and commodities as well.

Howard County funders are coordinating to rapidly raise funds and deploy critical resources to nonprofits in Howard County through HoCoRespond.com, with the goal of raising $100,000 in the next 10 days.<
Americans overwhelmingly support legislation to allow everyone to receive a tax break for their charitable gifts, according to a poll released Tuesday by Independent Sector, a membership organization of nonprofits that is pushing the idea. It is possible that Congress will vote to expand charitable deductions in a pending disaster funding package, but the biggest obstacle is the calendar. Congress has a limited time to consider legislation before going into recess for the entire month of October before the November midterm elections.
It’s time for Maryland Philanthropy Network’s peer learning exchange for arts and culture funders! We’ll gather over a cuppa for a lightly structured peer-to-peer exchange. Plan to share information about your recent grantees, what you are learning from them and others, and any updates about your arts or arts adjacent funding strategies. Following up on April’s conversation about The Changing Landscape of Arts Funding, we’ll also share plans for upcoming sessions and collect group feedback.
