All grantmakers are invited to participate in this four-part professional development series taught by our region's experienced practitioners, presented by Maryland Philanthropy Network. Session Three will cover understanding nonprofit financial statements with Jennifer Pedroni, Director at BDO FMA. Participants will learn how to read and understand budgets and financial statements to assess the health of an organization. They will also learn what questions to ask and understand how to interpret the numbers based on a nonprofit organization's age, mission, or funding streams.

Maryland Philanthropy Network’s Aging Innovations 2024 Summit to celebrate Older Americans Month and express appreciation for the dedication and commitment to those working in the field of aging. This year's theme is Older Adults are Powerful Assets! which will demonstrate the impactful value older adults give daily as employees, volunteers, and leaders. The keynote speaker will be Bradley Schurman, author of Super Age: Decoding the Demographic Destiny.

The Commission is to review and assess current education financing formulas and accountability measures and how each local school system spends its funds, including the increased State funds provided through the Bridge to Excellence in Public Schools Act. Moreover, the Commission will review the Study on Adequacy of Funding for Education in the State of Maryland, required by the Bridge to Excellence in Public Schools Act. Visit Baltimore is working on a comprehensive rebrand of its organization as well as a national marketing campaign to reintroduce Baltimore to travelers. The agency is also beginning to conceptualize a civic pride campaign that will encourage city residents and those who live in the surrounding five counties to act as ambassadors for Baltimore.

“Foundation Giving for Disability: Priorities and Trends”, a rigorous new study commissioned by the Disability & Philanthropy Forum, is the first study of its kind to map philanthropic giving for disability causes. The report goes beyond big-picture dollar figures to point out key imbalances within philanthropy, most notably the minuscule amount of support and action to advance social justice for people with disabilities across the spectrum of funding.

Since 2011, the Baltimore Integration Partnership (BIP), a partnership of philanthropic, nonprofit, financial, anchor and public sector organizations, has been working to advance economic inclusion. Our approach offers opportunities and lessons learned that are important for Baltimore to move forward.

Maryland Philanthropy Network has joined Maryland Nonprofits and our colleagues across Maryland in responding to a call for ideas from the State for how the budget surplus should be allocated. MPN was part of a group of 170 practitioners and partners that came together to create a joint appeal the result of which is this letter to the Governor. Together, we urge the State to dedicate $1 billion of the projected budget surplus for targeted relief, and that $500 million of this commitment should continue in future budgets to assure sustainability and for more equitable disbursement of state resources in partnership with the social purpose sector.
