We are starting the year with a Sharing Session so we can continue to build relationships with one another and share what we are thinking about and focusing on, as well as questions/struggles. We know the year ahead will be especially challenging for the cultural community and collective action on our part will be meaningful.
The purpose of the Arts Funders Affinity Group is to engage and educate Maryland funders about the dynamic local arts and cultural scene and the many opportunities it presents.
In late 2020, there was much talk about how the world of philanthropy was being upended by the confluence of historic events, namely COVID-19 and the Black Lives Matter movement in the U.S. Based on research commissioned by Spring Strategies in January 2022, this article from Dorothy A. Johnson Center for Philanthropy identifies four emerging phenomena that resulted from what have been recognized as the dual crises of unaddressed systemic racism and a global pandemic.
This peer group is focused on best practices and emerging opportunities in the field of health, including the social determinants of health and behavioral health. Group meetings provide opportunities for funders to learn about key issues including government policy impacts, share grantmaking priorities, explore shared interests with other stakeholders including policymakers/public agency staff, and engage in aligned or collaborative grantmaking.

Please join Maryland Philanthropy Network’s Maryland Aging Innovations Group for the 2023 Summit to encourage Maryland’s commitment to develop a multisector plan for aging that will engage and impact all Maryland residents. Along with sharing the local ‘age-friendly’ framework urban and rural Area Agencies on Aging are implementing; participants will hear about New York’s innovative efforts in creating a state-wide resource that transforms the infrastructure and coordination of services for a rapidly aging population and people with disabilities. Baltimore Workforce Funders Collaborative (BWFC) meets each month. The Collaborative is a group of private and public funders committed to advancing equity, job quality and systems change efforts that lead to family-sustaining wages, strengthened communities and a vibrant local economy. BWFC members actively fund workforce development, are willing to co-invest, are committed to tracking outcomes and sharing investment data, and work together to improve workforce systems.
