Police reform is an issue that intersects with nearly every focus issue of our philanthropic community. This is one in a series of programs that will engage community and justice professionals in deepening funder understanding of the reform processes underway, the barriers to reform and the potential impacts on the issues and investment areas that are the focus of our funding community.

At this program, panelists will describe how the cases of unaccompanied children and vulnerable immigrant adults are being handled by the legal services community, as well as the efforts taken to address their mental health and other basic needs. They will also discuss the Multi-Ethnic Domestic Violence Project (MEDOVI), which creates an avenue for victims who are immigrants and their children to get legal status; and how Maryland’s legal community is gearing up to serve even more immigrants.

Join us for a presentation by Dr. Andre Perry, author of Know Your Price: Valuing Black Lives and Property in America’s Black Cities. Dr. Perry will be joined by Stephanie Smith, Baltimore City’s Assistant Director for Equity, Engagement and Communications and Maryland State Delegate, to discuss how government, corporate, non-profit, and philanthropic sectors in the Baltimore region could restore value to communities by adopting a new paradigm for determining and building value and wealth in Baltimore’s Black communities.
It could not be clearer in those moments how firmly engrained white supremacy is in all the structures of our nation. The response from law enforcement at the Capitol was unrecognizable from the over-policing that occurs in many of the communities we serve and represent. The upswell of white supremacists came from across our country and from nearly every community. We at Maryland Philanthropy Network stand with our colleagues and leaders across the country in calling for change. Our communities and our future depend on it.
After a delay of 27 months, we are pleased to finally host an open house for members at our office space in Baltimore’s Hampden neighborhood! Our customized 4,000-square-foot office features a polished and comfortable conference room (twice the size as our old one), casual meeting areas, an open kitchen, and over 100 feet of gallery space. During the open house, we invite you to tour our offices and convening spaces, experience our first art installations - The Photographer is Listening by Edwin Remsberg and Positive Connection by G.M. Webb, all while enjoying light fare with friends and colleagues as we establish the new center for philanthropy in Maryland.

Maryland Department of Health’s Elizabeth Kromm, PhD, Director, Prevention and Health Promotion Administration, will share the Department's vision for maternal health and overall women's health. Dr. Kromm will provide an overview of current initiatives across the perinatal continuum as well as discuss opportunities for partnership with philanthropy.
