Over the course of a year, Philanthropy New York's Leadership Transitions Funders Group has engaged a group of NYC-based funders in building a community of practice. The goal has been to strengthen funder practices around supporting nonprofits going through leadership transitions and to more broadly address transition patterns or moments as they arise within the movements/fields we support.
What we’ve learned about funder behavior and funder practices transcends the space of supporting leadership transitions. In other words, adopting holistic funding practices and supporting organizational capacity strengthens the nonprofit sector, period.

The University of Colorado Denver’s second phase of an organizational network study of the BIP highlights results from extensive interviews with small business, workforce, and community stakeholders. The research brief includes community perspectives on economic inclusion work as well as a range of recommendations for institutions as well as businesses and public partners to consider as they work to implement new hiring, purchasing and investment strategies.
The Maryland Aging Innovations Group of Maryland Philanthropy Network (MPN) facilitates its members’ in-depth exploration of issues and impact on targeted community concerns in the field of aging. This group engages MPN members and non-profit and community leaders across multiple sectors working together to improve the quality of life for older adults in Maryland.
This peer group is focused on best practices and emerging opportunities in the field of health, including the social determinants of health and behavioral health. Group meetings provide opportunities for funders to learn about key issues including government policy impacts, share grantmaking priorities, explore shared interests with other stakeholders including policymakers/public agency staff, and engage in aligned or collaborative grantmaking.
