Baltimore Seniors & Housing Collaborative would like to finish this challenging year on a positive note by sharing what we have been able to accomplish to overcome the deep-seated housing disparities created through decades of Baltimore’s red-lining practices which were then exacerbated by the pandemic. To kick off 2022, the Arts Funders Affinity Group is pleased to welcome Eddie Torres, president & CEO of Grantmakers in the Arts. In late 2020 and again in mid-2021, Grantmakers in the Arts (GIA) surveyed their members about recent and upcoming changes in arts grantmaking practices in response to the pandemic and the movement for Black lives. Eddie will share his national perspective of arts grantmaking and discuss the findings from GIA’s latest survey. We’ll then bring it home with a brief update from Nicholas Cohen from Maryland Citizens for the Arts and have a whole group sharing session about our grantmaking practice and if it reflects the national trends in increased giving, flexibility, support for individual artists, and support for BIPOC organizations. Will also identify opportunities for collaboration and continued learning.
Funders Together to End Homelessness – Baltimore is hosting a special conversation with Jeff Olivet, Executive Director of the United States Interagency Council on Homelessness (USICH) and Dr. Joe Savage, Regional Advisor for USICH, about the newly released federal strategic plan to prevent and end homelessness, “All In.” This new plan establishes a goal to reduce homelessness by 25% by the end of 2025. This is an opportunity to learn together about the plan and understand how it connects with local priorities and investments. Irene Agustin, Director of the Mayor’s Office of Homeless Services and Janice Miller, Chair of the Continuum of Care, will provide insight about how the plan will affect work in Baltimore to make homelessness rare and brief.
Join Maryland Philanthropy Network for a peer learning exchange for funders supporting environmental and sustainability issues in Maryland! We take some time to integrate our learnings, share what we are thinking about and focusing on, and discuss our plans for the coming year. Lightly structured, these peer-to-peer exchange events are designed to integrate and learn from others in philanthropy through facilitation of the following: strategy sharing and exchange of ideas around what other funders are working on, stimulating new ways of thinking by sharing learnings and creating an environment conducive to discovery among the community of funders, and relationship building.

Findings from a new survey conducted by the Center for Effective Philanthropy (CEP) show that U.S. nonprofits faced major challenges but fared better than expected in 2020, thanks to an infusion of philanthropic and government funding. However, the data reveal concerning disparities in the experiences of women leading nonprofits and of nonprofits serving certain communities of color.
Maryland Philanthropy Network invites the staff and board members of nonprofit 501(c)3 organizations and social enterprises to our recurring program on foundations and the broader landscape of philanthropy in Maryland. This learning opportunity is most appropriate to new grantseekers and to nonprofit organizations in Baltimore and central Maryland. The webinar provides basic knowledge of foundations and other grantmakers and resources for finding funders/funding opportunities.
