Maryland Philanthropy Network’s Health Funders Affinity Group is pleased to host Maryland Department of Health’s Deputy Secretary Perrie Briskin, Healthcare Financing and Medicaid Director, and Maryland Department of Human Services Assistant Secretary for Programs Larry Handerhan for a conversation on strategies the Departments are taking to mitigate effects of recent federal changes. It is estimated that 175,000 Marylanders are at risk of losing health insurance coverage, and loss of up to $27 million in Directed Payments is projected beginning in 2027 — a significant concern given how these funds support essential programs like Medicaid, AHEAD, and related transformation initiatives.

Supporting nonprofit organizational health by way of facilitating stronger partnerships between philanthropy and nonprofits is one of three priority actions that resulted from Maryland Philanthropy Network member conversations over the past year in our State of the Sector Workgroup. MPN members are invited to build on these conversations by joining this special program with Associated Black Charities and Baltimore area Black-focused nonprofit organizations around positive relationships in support of the organizational health of nonprofit organizations.

It’s time for Maryland Philanthropy Network’s peer learning exchange for arts and culture funders! We’ll gather over a cuppa for a lightly structured peer-to-peer exchange. Plan to share information about your recent grantees, what you are learning from them and others, and any updates about your arts or arts adjacent funding strategies. Following up on April’s conversation about The Changing Landscape of Arts Funding, we’ll also share plans for upcoming sessions and collect group feedback.
This program is at capacity and is no longer accepting registrations. Please add your name to the waitlist and we will contact you if space opens up.

No matter where your organization might be or want to be on the spectrum of impact investing, join Maryland Philanthropy Network, and the Chesapeake Bay Funders Network for an opportunity to learn and share your experience with other funders. Toniic, a community of funders and asset holders seeking deeper net impact across a spectrum of capital, will also provide an overview of the many types and approaches grant makers can use to leverage capital for good. We will then hold a funder-only discussion to assess interest in a funder learning cohort specific to our region and/or the many opportunities emerging in the agriculture, climate, and food sectors.
