Join Maryland Philanthropy Network for a peer learning exchange for environmental/sustainability funders. We’re pleased to be joined by Program Officer, Deborah Philbrick of the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, who will speak with us about their Climate Solutions grantmaking. The goal of this “Big Bets” portfolio is to ensure that the Earth stays well below a two-degrees Celsius temperature increase to avoid catastrophic global effects. Hear about how this international funder thinks about its approach, priorities, and what they are learning. We’ll then discuss trends and opportunities you and other funders are seeing.

Harm Reduction Summit: Addressing the Older Adult Opioid Overdose Crisis

Over the past six years, Baltimore has endured one of America’s deadliest drug epidemics. Black men in their mid-50s to early 70s are experiencing fatal overdoes at a significantly higher rate than any other group. While just 7 percent of Baltimore City’s population, they account for nearly 30 percent of drug fatalities – a death rate 20 times that of the rest of the country. Black men of that age in Baltimore city are more likely to die of substance overdose than from cancer or even Covid-19 at the height of the pandemic. Join Maryland Philanthropy Network to collaborate with colleagues to learn about harm reduction programs, challenges in implementation, and intervention methods to prevent fatal outcomes.

Please join Maryland Philanthropy Network’s Maryland Aging Innovations Group for the 2023 Summit to encourage Maryland’s commitment to develop a multisector plan for aging that will engage and impact all Maryland residents. Along with sharing the local ‘age-friendly’ framework urban and rural Area Agencies on Aging are implementing; participants will hear about New York’s innovative efforts in creating a state-wide resource that transforms the infrastructure and coordination of services for a rapidly aging population and people with disabilities. We’ll end with inspirational Creative Arts Projects for older adults!

After three years, we are delighted to offer this event in-person at the beautiful Vollmer Center at Cylburn Arboretum.
