Katie Lautar, Executive Director of Baltimore Green Space will share how they are working at the intersection of community care of green spaces, advocacy, and scientific research that promotes the health of communities and equitable access to sustainable green spaces.
The Washington Association of Black Journalists (WABJ) is thrilled to announce that VoicesDMV, an initiative of the Greater Washington Community Foundation, has been selected as the 2024 recipient of the Dr. Sheila Brooks Community Impact Award. This award recognizes the community engagement initiative’s commitment to amplifying the voices and needs of underrepresented communities across the D.C. metropolitan area.
Philanthropy is crucial in maintaining a strong and equitable democracy. Such a democracy creates a culture of civic participation which enables communities to utilize collective power to shape systems and structures.
In 2011, Susan Purnell conceived of a philanthropic idea to amplify the lives of local women and girls by starting a fund and asking each member to donate $1,000.
