In their latest publication, Reimagining Capacity Building, Grantmakers for Effective Organizations (GEO) provides vital principles for centering equity in our capacity building efforts, explores the way inequities can show up, and offers steps we can take to address and mitigate those inequities. Join Maryland Philanthropy Network and Grantmakers for Effective Organizations for this interactive and engaging workshop. Our speakers Akilah Massey, Vice President of Programs and Mareeha Niaz, Director of Programs at Grantmakers for Effective Organizations will give a deep dive into the practices highlighted in their resource and efforts around capacity building. Through national examples and Maryland voices, participants will ideas about how shifts in practices lead to meaningful change for communities.
Businesses large and small will be critical partners as the world continues to heal from the global pandemic and its economic impacts. The field of corporate philanthropy will shift and adapt to make the most of limited resources of human and financial capital to help communities in their back yard and beyond. Maureen Flynn from Changing Our World - a consulting company dedicated to helping the private sector act as a force for public good - will moderate a discussion with Mateus Baptista, Deputy Director at Panasonic, and Michele Mehaffy, Consumer Affairs Manager at Wegmans, about how this work continues to evolve to meet community need.

Held in partnership with the Trust-Based Philanthropy Project, this is the fifth session of a 6-part webinar series on Demystifying Trust-Based Philanthropy. During this session, we will unpack these important nuances and will highlight examples of how grantmakers are relying on rigor and continuous learning to understand impact. Participants can expect to gain a clear understanding of trust-based philanthropy’s three-pronged approach to learning and evaluation, as well as concrete tools they can use to implement in their own work. Each session will provide dedicated space for small-group peer dialogue with other MPN members about ways to implement these practices into your grantmaking.
This session will be an opportunity to reconnect on impact investing, share reflections on national and local conversations, and determine key next areas of learning enabling Maryland Philanthropy Network staff to coordinate relevant ongoing convening of the roundtable.
