In 2023, Mayor Brandon Scott, BUILD, and the Greater Baltimore Committee formed an agreement to end the crisis of vacant and abandoned properties in Baltimore City over the next 15 years. This partnership is committed to a “whole blocks” approach that will leverage an estimated $3 billion in public investment — including $300 million in private and philanthropic contributions — to bring an additional $5 billion in private investments to neighborhoods across Baltimore. We invite business and philanthropic leaders to a briefing about this strategy. The session will highlight specific areas where expertise and resources from the business and philanthropic communities can support a historic public-private partnership to eliminate vacant housing and build safe, stable neighborhoods where all city residents can thrive.
Community Health Workers, Home Health Aides, Personal Care Attendants, and Nursing Assistants are among the direct care workers on the front lines of the Pandemic. COVID-19 spotlighted both an incentive towards accelerating the delivery of care directly in communities and the inequities experienced by direct care and community health workers. During this program, we will have a discussion with David Rodwin of the Public Justice Center and the Maryland Regional Direct Services Collaborative, Dr. Chidinma Ibe, of the Johns Hopkins Schools of Medicine and Public Health. We will learn from our speakers how we can support, advocate, and sustain community health workers and direct home care programs to meet the increasing need to change the delivery of healthcare from institution-based to the community.

Picking up on work started in 2020 by Maryland Philanthropy Network, and funded by several of our members, consultant team Jonalyn Denlinger and Erika Seth Davies have been mapping Baltimore’s fiscal sponsorship landscape. Through conversations and interviews with funders, fiscal sponsors, and fiscally sponsored organizations in Baltimore, as well as national players in the fiscal sponsor ecosystem, the project prioritized and centered the needs of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC)-led organizations and social entrepreneurs in assessing the effectiveness of the current nonprofit ecosystem and fiscal sponsor landscape. Join members of Maryland Philanthropy Network to learn about the findings of the landscape assessment; best practices and gaps in the system; and recommendations for short-term and long-term strategies for addressing the findings. We’ll take time to discuss about how funders might contribute to building an equitable fiscal sponsorship ecosystem.
