The Open Society Foundations will provide $1 million in direct financial and other emergency support for workers in Baltimore who have been hit hard by COVID-19 and are at greatest risk of falling into extreme hardship, including those who are unemployed and the formerly incarcerated.

In June, ABFE released We Must be in it for the Long Haul, a call to action to philanthropy to stem anti-Black racism developed in partnership with Black foundations executives across the country.
Shanaysha Sauls, President & CEO of the Baltimore Community Foundation and one of the signatories of the statement, will ground participants in the impetus for the statement and share insight around the significance for MPN’s members. From there, MPN members will have a chance to learn and share with peers in smaller breakout groups.

Supporting nonprofit organizational health by way of facilitating stronger partnerships between philanthropy and nonprofits is one of three priority actions that resulted from Maryland Philanthropy Network member conversations over the past year in our State of the Sector Workgroup. The Baltimore City Early Care and Education Landscape Analysis was commissioned by the Baltimore City Early Childhood Advisory Council (ECAC) and funded by a grant from the Maryland State Department of Education through the Family League of Baltimore City. Additional funding from members of the Prenatal to Five Impact Collaborative at Maryland Philanthropy Network supported editing and design. The Fund for Educational Excellence and the Family League of Baltimore provided project coordination, leadership, and guidance throughout.
