Overriding the Blueprint Veto in the Forthcoming Legislative Session

Overriding the Blueprint Veto in the Forthcoming Legislative Session

Tuesday, November 17, 2020, 3:00 - 4:00 PM

A brand new poll shows significant support for the override of the Governor’s veto of the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future. The poll, commissioned by Our Voice Maryland and conducted by Change Research, shows that 57% of Marylanders would support the General Assembly overriding Governor Hogan’s veto of the Blueprint, which would provide critical investment and supports for public schools. What is philanthropy’s role if the veto is overridden? What is philanthropy’s role if it is not?

Maryland Philanthropy Network is pleased to welcome back Joe Francaviglia, Executive Director, and Shamoyia Gardiner, Deputy Director, of Strong Schools Maryland to speak on the role of philanthropy in the work ahead. Joe and Shamoyia will provide an update about the current status of the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future (also known as the Kirwan Commission) and share their strategies to ensure the legislation passes—and is implemented with fidelity.

The support and scale provided by the Kirwan Commission lays the groundwork for a world-class education system—in turn improving the conditions for community safety, accessible health care, a skilled workforce and more. An issue this complex requires everyone to be on board. Funders across different interest areas are encouraged to join so we are all prepared for the upcoming legislative session!

This program is for Maryland Philanthropy Network members only.
