We all benefit when local economies offer equitable, stable jobs. Two new tools are being piloted in Baltimore to enhance the ability of companies and their employees to prosper.
On January 31st, participants uttered these phrases in frustration and despair during United Way of Central Maryland’s Walk a Mile Experience (WAM), a poverty simulation, which the Maryland Philanthropy Network (Maryland Philanthropy Network) co-hosted with the Baltimore Women’s Giving Circle and the Jewish Women’s Giving Foundation, a project of The ASSOCIATED.

The Baltimore Children and Youth Fund (BCYF) awarded CLLCTIVLY and Maryland Nonprofits $150,000 to pilot the CONNECT program. The broadly shared, widely endorsed definition of what constitutes a good job was released by the Good Jobs Champions Group, convened by the Families and Workers Fund and the Aspen Institute Economic Opportunities Program, in October 2022. Signed by over 100 leaders from business, labor, policy, philanthropy, academia, and workforce development it represents a historic step forward toward a future in which all work is valued; no one working full-time lives in or near poverty; companies and workers thrive alongside each other; and diverse talent is never overlooked.
