Baltimore’s Promise, in partnership with the Annie E. Casey Foundation and the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation, recently announced a package of 10 grants totaling roughly $525,000 through its Youth Grantmakers Initiative. The effort, which featured a group of 15 Baltimore-area youth and young adults between the ages of 16 and 25 in prominent design and decision-making roles, granted funds to 10 local organizations.
How do you engage city residents to volunteer to confront Baltimore's challenges and serve vulnerable people throughout the city? To help 60,000 Baltimoreans sustain recovery from drugs and alcohol abuse? To repurpose 14,000 vacant lots?
How can we build a better and more equitable health care system? Join the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF), Maryland Philanthropy Network’s Health Funders and Public Policy Committee, and leading advocates working to advance health equity in Maryland as we discuss state and local initiatives to expand health care coverage, improve health care quality, address disparities in health outcomes, and make prescription drugs more affordable.

This full-day professional development workshop for grantmakers is taught by the region's experienced practitioners and is designed for trustees and staff of foundations, giving circles and corporate giving, individuals who are exploring how to organize significant charitable giving, and beginning and intermediate grantmakers.
With seed funding from a cross-section of philanthropic organizations, grants from the Baltimore Small Business Support Fund will help the organizations build capacity. The groups will also form a cohort to share best practices.
In the last week of July 2010, torrential rains caused devastating floods in large parts of Pakistan. The floods have affected more than 20 million people (more than 10 per cent of the total population). Devastating communities throughout the country, in an area of at least 160,000 square kilometres — larger than England — the floods killed more than 1,700 people, and damaged or destroyed nearly 1.9 million homes.*
