Join Maryland Philanthropy Network for a peer learning exchange for arts and culture funders! In the past year we’ve learned about the Financial Impact of COVID on the Arts in Maryland, Supporting Leaders of Color in the Arts and Creative Economy in Maryland, and Arts Grantmakers’ Changes in Practice and Sharing Session. We’ll now take some time to integrate our learnings, share what we are thinking about and focusing on, and discuss our plans for the coming year.

Conversation with Maryland Departments of Human Services and Health on the Impacts of HR1

Maryland Philanthropy Network’s Health Funders Affinity Group is pleased to host Maryland Department of Health’s Deputy Secretary Perrie Briskin, Healthcare Financing and Medicaid Director, and Maryland Department of Human Services Assistant Secretary for Programs Larry Handerhan for a conversation on strategies the Departments are taking to mitigate effects of recent federal changes. It is estimated that 175,000 Marylanders are at risk of losing health insurance coverage, and loss of up to $27 million in Directed Payments is projected beginning in 2027 — a significant concern given how these funds support essential programs like Medicaid, AHEAD, and related transformation initiatives.

Recovery and Essential Workers Series: Direct Care and Community Health Workers

Community Health Workers, Home Health Aides, Personal Care Attendants, and Nursing Assistants are among the direct care workers on the front lines of the Pandemic. COVID-19 spotlighted both an incentive towards accelerating the delivery of care directly in communities and the inequities experienced by direct care and community health workers.  During this program, we will have a discussion with David Rodwin of the Public Justice Center and the Maryland Regional Direct Services Collaborative, Dr. Chidinma Ibe, of the Johns Hopkins Schools of Medicine and Public Health. We will learn from our speakers how we can support, advocate, and sustain community health workers and direct home care programs to meet the increasing need to change the delivery of healthcare from institution-based to the community.

Funder Debrief from the December 2024 Vacants Presentation by the Baltimore City Department of Housing and Community Development

Join Maryland Philanthropy Network for a funder debrief conversation about the Historic Plan to Address Vacant Properties in Baltimore Neighborhoods. An initial briefing was held on September 23, 2024 and a follow up conversation was held on December 6, 2024. Funders will work together to determine ways they would like to be part of the Vacants/Reinvest Baltimore work in an ongoing way, the structure for their participation, and how they would like to be supported going forward.
