Building on several years of collaboration, join Maryland Philanthropy Network and Virginia Funders Network for a gathering of funders from across the region. In last month’s Member Memo, I emphasized a core belief that continues to guide our work: meaningful, lasting impact in our communities depends on collaboration. No single organization can address today’s complex challenges alone. A perfect example of this belief in action took place earlier this month when we partnered with Exponent Philanthropy to host a Lean Funder Regional Gathering at our office in Baltimore.

Recently, I had the opportunity to participate in a thought-provoking, poignant and powerfully packaged event hosted by the Maryland Philanthropy Network. This event included a discussion by Kevin Shird and Nelson Malden, authors of the recently published book The Colored Waiting Room: Empowering the Original and the New Civil Movements followed by a panel discussion on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.

Baltimore’s Promise, in partnership with the Annie E. Casey Foundation and the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation, recently announced a package of 10 grants totaling roughly $525,000 through its Youth Grantmakers Initiative. The effort, which featured a group of 15 Baltimore-area youth and young adults between the ages of 16 and 25 in prominent design and decision-making roles, granted funds to 10 local organizations.
