Kelly Medinger, our most trusted and valued Executive Director of the Knott Foundation for the last decade, has shared her intentions to resign from her post, effective December 31, 2022. This one-hour webinar will offer a high-level overview of employment law trends and best practices for foundations. Attorneys from the Labor & Employment and Nonprofit & Tax-Exempt Organizations groups of Dentons, the world’s largest global law firm, will present practical tips for small- and mid-size foundations with regard to employment and workplace issues. Drawing from both national trends in the industry and the impact of the pandemic and social change, topics will include: social media policies; remote and hybrid work considerations; job descriptions and changes with hiring practices; and independent contractor agreements.

On November 13th, Danista E. Hunte, President and CEO of Maryland Philanthropy Network, Linda Dworak, Director of the Baltimore Workforce Funders Collaborative (BWFC), and members of the BWFC attended the annoucement of the new Baltimore Workforce Hub at Carver Vocational High School in Baltimore. MPN’s BWFC will collaborate with the Baltimore Mayor’s Office of Employment Development, Baltimore City Schools, and the Baltimore DC Building Trades Council to coordinate the project.

Please join Maryland Philanthropy Network in partnership with the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore for an exciting day of learning and networking with fellow philanthropic leaders. This half-day program will focus on the unique challenges and opportunities faced by grantmaking organizations and communities serving rural Maryland. We will learn from Dr. Yen Dang, Professor of the Rural Health Disparities Program at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, and Special Secretary Carmel Martin, Governor’s Office for Children. Gain insight and understanding regarding social determinants of health and Governor Moore's new place-based strategies associated with the E.N.O.U.G.H Act, which aims to reduce the causes of childhood poverty in communities across Maryland. Participants will then enjoy lunch and an engaging conversation with local voices to discuss shared goals around the racial, social, and economic inequities facing rural Maryland and how philanthropy might respond.
