Member Sponsored Briefing | Capital Grantmaking: Lessons from the Field of Education
Maryland Philanthropy Network members are invited to attend a presentation showcasing a summer 2025 research project conducted by five Morehead-Cain Scholars from the University of North Carolina. The scholars will explore what philanthropic funders currently know or need to understand about capital grantmaking in the fields of education and youth development. Through in-depth interviews, document analysis, and case studies, this study sheds light on what makes capital projects succeed—or fail—and offers actionable insights for funders striving to increase the effectiveness of their investments.
Attendees will gain a first look at emerging best practices, key themes from successful and unsuccessful projects, and strategies for minimizing harm and maximizing impact. Drawing from interviews with nonprofit leaders, foundations, and CDFIs in the Baltimore region, the research provides a rare, 360-degree view of the challenges and opportunities in education-focused capital grantmaking.
This event is ideal for foundation leaders, grantmakers, CDFI representatives, nonprofit professionals, and anyone interested in more thoughtful, data-informed approaches to funding capital projects in the education space.
This briefing is sponsored by The Middendorf Foundation and is for Maryland Philanthropy Network members and invited guests. Breakfast will be served.
