This program will include an overview of Nature Sacred, its vision for health in Maryland and evidence of the healing power of nature with Teresia Hazen, M.Ed., HTR, QMHP and award-winning Firesoul. Katie Lautar, Executive Director of Baltimore Green Space will share how they are working at the intersection of community care of green spaces, advocacy, and scientific research that promotes the health of communities and equitable access to sustainable green spaces.

Foundations and nonprofits create more resilient and impactful change when their strategies are shaped by the communities most harmed by inequities. The COVID-19 pandemic taught us invaluable lessons about the importance of community listening and nimble response. In the face of the social sector's recent turmoil, re-applying and building upon those lessons is more urgent than ever. This virtual session will explore how to carry forward best practices from the pandemic to meet today’s challenges. We’ll share strategies–including timely use cases–for responding to shifting community needs. Fellow funders and Listen4Good, a subject matter expert, will share about their successes, challenges, and best practices for centering community voice in grantmaking.

During a recent visit, BWFC hosted the National Fund's Board of Directors and staff team for a day that showcased their deep relationships and bold worker-centered approach. During this meeting, Erica Pinket, the new Climate and Resilience Planner with the Baltimore City Office of Sustainability in the Department of Planning will share her vision for supporting and building Community Resiliency Center Hubs and the very relevant heat mitigation practices they are implementing. Jeff Griffin, Executive Director of the Franciscan Center, and Eli Allen and Simon Zimmer with Civic Works will talk about their successful and sometimes challenging efforts to build infrastructure, purchase and maintain essential equipment and supplies, and obtain financial support as Resiliency Hub operators.
