The Healing Power of Nature: Building Healthier Communities through Green Spaces

The Healing Power of Nature: Building Healthier Communities through Green Spaces

Tuesday, December 15, 2020, 3:00 - 4:30 PM

During these unprecedented times, factors that impact physical and mental health have made their way to the forefront of our daily lives. Nature Sacred is a private operating foundation that works to inspire, inform and guide communities in the creation of public green spaces or, as they call them, Sacred Places.

Through their evidence-based design model of the effects of nature on healing, each of their Sacred Places helps to restore mental health, strengthen communities and support mindful reflection. Some examples of this effects are outlined in the allied and curated research of their Healing Power of Nature Report. There is a linkage to be made between healthier communities and green spaces. Access to nature during the COVID-19 pandemic has improved the mental health of individuals while also adhering to social distancing.

Please join us for a meet and greet with MPN Member, Erin Robertson, the Chief Programs Officer for Nature Sacred. This program will include an overview of Nature Sacred, its vision for health in Maryland and evidence of the healing power of nature with Teresia Hazen, M.Ed., HTR, QMHP an award-winning Firesoul. Katie Lautar, Executive Director of Baltimore Green Space will share how they are working at the intersection of community care of green spaces, advocacy, and scientific research that promotes the health of communities and equitable access to sustainable green spaces.

This program is for Maryland Philanthropy Network members only.
