2011 Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Relief Efforts

Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected by the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan.  The preliminary numbers on those affected by these disasters are staggering, and in the days and months to come, they may only get worse.

Violence as a Health Crisis: What Does the Research Say about Reducing Violence?

By the end of 2017, Baltimore suffered 343 homicides, a new record for killings per capita. This continues a troubling trajectory; overall violent crime between 2012 to 2017 is up 9.8 percent. Most categories of violent crime either increased or stayed about the same, with the biggest percentage growths in homicides, shootings and robberies. Join expert researchers to learn about violence as a health crisis and research-based best practices around reducing violence. We’ll also discuss how these practices are (or could be) implemented in Baltimore.

Baltimore Youth Initiative Issues Grants to 10 Organizations

Baltimore’s Promise, in part­ner­ship with the Annie E. Casey Foun­da­tion and the Har­ry and Jeanette Wein­berg Foun­da­tion, recent­ly announced a pack­age of 10 grants total­ing rough­ly $525,000 through its Youth Grant­mak­ers Ini­tia­tive. The effort, which fea­tured a group of 15 Bal­ti­more-area youth and young adults between the ages of 16 and 25 in promi­nent design and deci­sion-mak­ing roles, grant­ed funds to 10 local orga­ni­za­tions.

The Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County’s 2022 Anne Arundel County needs assessment, Poverty Amidst Plenty VII: Moving Forward Together is now available electronically. The community needs assessment is a data-rich report intended to increase knowledge and awareness about persistent local trends and needs in Anne Arundel County. The report intends to increase knowledge and awareness as well as to frame informed discussions about persistent local trends and needs.

2010 Earthquake in Chile

On February 27, 2010 an 8.8 magnitude earthquake struck Chile early Saturday morning, killing more than 700 people and leaving 2 million people displaced. The earthquake also toppled buildings, snapped power lines, damaged roads and bridges, and cut off communications. The most significant damage appears to be in and around Concepción, the country's second largest city.
