Join Maryland Philanthropy Network's Green Funders Affinity Group to learn more about two recent action-oriented reports on climate change efforts in Maryland. Maryland Philanthropy Network’s Community Investment Affinity Group is pleased to host Alice Kennedy, Commissioner of Baltimore City’s Department of Housing and Community Development for a conversation about the Department’s work to improve the quality of life for all Baltimore City residents by revitalizing and redeveloping communities and promoting access to quality affordable housing opportunities in safe, livable neighborhoods. We’ll hear the status of DHCD's aspirational and comprehensive Framework for Community Development, various approaches to address residential vacant properties and the availability of quality affordable housing. We’ll also discuss the role that funders could play in addressing the issue of neighborhoods impacted by high levels of vacancy and disinvestment.

Baltimore Workforce Funders Collaborative Signs onto National Good Jobs Statement

The Baltimore Workforce Funders Collaborative recently signed onto a national statement on good jobs. The broadly shared, widely endorsed definition of what constitutes a good job was released by the Good Jobs Champions Group, convened by the Families and Workers Fund and the Aspen Institute Economic Opportunities Program, in October 2022. Signed by over 100 leaders from business, labor, policy, philanthropy, academia, and workforce development it represents a historic step forward toward a future in which all work is valued; no one working full-time lives in or near poverty; companies and workers thrive alongside each other; and diverse talent is never overlooked.

Supporting Afghans in Crisis

In the wake of the U.S. withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan, the collapse of the Afghan government, and the Taliban’s takeover, many Afghans are fleeing for their lives. While up-to-date figures are unavailable due to the intense conflict, more than 1 million Afghans remain displaced from their homes due to ongoing violence and frequent natural disasters. We are grateful for our colleagues at Grantmakers Concerned with Immigrants and Refugees (GCIR) who have compiled a list of actions to support philanthropic response. Maryland Philanthropy Network will continue to post ways in which philanthropy may respond to all that is happening in the world and we urge foundations and individual philanthropists to look into the future of how all of this will change Maryland and what your role may be to relieve suffering and build for our future.

Arts Funders Affinity Group

This peer group is focused on promoting and strengthening a dynamic arts scene in Maryland and engages and educates area funders about existing and emerging opportunities.  Members interested in the arts and culture can build relationships with each other; share information; research and ideas; and learn together along with local and national experts.

Workforce Development Affinity Group

This peer group is focused on the effective practices in job training and retention for adults and youth as well as a continuum of issues surrounding successful employment and financial security for low-wage workers and vulnerable populations including, advancement of incumbent workers, job quality, equity and barriers to employment such as transportation, child care, and criminal records.
