In recognition of this focus and the desire to align funding around housing stability, Maryland Philanthropy Network members, many of whom are part of the Basic Human Needs Affinity Group decided to transform into a new group comprised of private and public funders, currently called Funders Together to End Homelessness – Baltimore.
Over the course of this decade, two economic downturns translated into a significant rise in poverty, across the country.
With seven active Affinity Groups, the learning and action among our funder members is rich and varied, but also has the potential to be compartmentalized and silo-ed. This peer group is focused on topics related to community greening, sustainability, climate change, and environmental protection. Group discussions are often cross-sectoral, examining the impact of environmental issues on community development, human health, or economic welfare. Participating members come from a wide range of grant-making backgrounds and diverse areas of expertise.
The Community Foundation of Frederick County completed the [2018 Frederick County Human Needs Assessment], which involved interviews with local leaders, creating focus groups, gathering local research and administering an online survey.

The Prenatal-to-Five (PN-5) Affinity Group was created to help funders who are interested in supporting expectant parents, and children from birth through age five and their families improve their grantmaking by learning more about initiatives, educational research, and best practices.
This peer group is focused on best practices and emerging opportunities in the field of health, including the social determinants of health and behavioral health. Group meetings provide opportunities for funders to learn about key issues including government policy impacts, share grantmaking priorities, explore shared interests with other stakeholders including policymakers/public agency staff, and engage in aligned or collaborative grantmaking.
