Please join the Maryland Philanthropy Network’s Health Funders for a conversation about alternative policing strategies for behavioral health. We will receive an overview of the behavioral health components of the Consent Decree, and discuss the potential alternatives needed in the system of care to promote diversion. The aged homeless population is growing rapidly and will continue to grow for the next decade. Please Maryland Philanthropy Network’s Baltimore Seniors & Housing Collaborative for a discussion on forecasts of the aged homeless population; projected costs associated with the use of shelter, health care, and long-term care by this aged homeless population; proposed housing and service intervention models matched to the varying level of housing and services needs of these subgroups; and potential service cost reductions associated with housing interventions.

In April 2017, the City of Baltimore entered into a consent decree with the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) to address findings related to the Baltimore Police Department’s patterns and practices. Since then, Baltimore City, Baltimore Police Department and multiple partners have come together to map out steps needed to make meaningful and sustainable change. Join Maryland Philanthropy Network’s Health Funders Affinity Group and the Affinity Group on Aging to learn how Baltimore City is transforming the landscape of behavioral health crisis response and providing the tools necessary to reduce unnecessary police interaction with people with mental illness and substance use disorder.

Maryland Philanthropy Network’s Community Investment Affinity Group is pleased to host Alice Kennedy, Commissioner of Baltimore City’s Department of Housing and Community Development for a conversation about the Department’s work to improve the quality of life for all Baltimore City residents by revitalizing and redeveloping communities and promoting access to quality affordable housing opportunities in safe, livable neighborhoods. We’ll hear the status of DHCD's aspirational and comprehensive Framework for Community Development, various approaches to address residential vacant properties and the availability of quality affordable housing. We’ll also discuss the role that funders could play in addressing the issue of neighborhoods impacted by high levels of vacancy and disinvestment.
