Join Maryland Philanthropy Network's Education Funders Affinity Group for a discussion with Senator Paul Pinsky and leading education advocates about the 2022 Legislative Session. Senator Pinsky will share information about K-12 education legislation under review and the role of philanthropy in K-12 education in support of public funding efforts. Advocates will share education bills they are working on and a status update from their perspectives on the implementation of the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future. We will also hear from the charter school community to learn their policy priorities and how they are impacted by the COVID-19 public health crisis, the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future, and the influx of state and federal dollars.
The Commission is to review and assess current education financing formulas and accountability measures and how each local school system spends its funds, including the increased State funds provided through the Bridge to Excellence in Public Schools Act. Moreover, the Commission will review the Study on Adequacy of Funding for Education in the State of Maryland, required by the Bridge to Excellence in Public Schools Act. Come hear directly from local and statewide organizations to learn about their work focused on the Kirwan Commission and other legislation focused on local, education-related issues.
The Women’s Giving Circle of Howard County had a wonderful night celebrating women, community, and Black Philanthropy Month on August 1 at the Women's Giving Circle of Howard County's Black Philanthropy Month Happy Hour at The 3rd. The WGC is proud to continue support for Black Philanthropy Month, which is observed every August. The primary aims of BPM are informing, involving, inspiring and investing in Black philanthropic leadership to strengthen African-American and African-descent giving in all its forms, for the benefit of our planet, our communities, our organizations and our lives.
