Year in Review – My Favorite Things
“How are you?” These three words have taken on new meaning this year. At different points throughout 2025, the question has landed differently. But the throughline has been consistent: In the scheme of things, I’m good, and I am taking each day as it comes. Or to borrow the immortal words of American playwright August Wilson (more on that below), “You’ve got to take the crookeds with the straights.” And this past year has been no straight line!
Over the years, we’ve seen our share of volatility. Recent emergencies have taught us that crises are rarely “blips,” but rather triggers of long-term effects which introduce and accelerate long- and wide-ranging shifts. For example, COVID-19 put BCF’s electronic grant-processing on overdrive and flexed our ability to conduct rapid response through collaboration. The Key Bridge collapse was a parable for compassionate, high stakes, multi-sector partnership and placed our region’s reliance on the port economy and shoulder industries in sharp focus.
As I reflect on the challenges of this long season of disruption, I’m choosing to draw on our strengths and build on our wins. And 2025 had its fair share of wins.
