Thursday, July 11, 2019, 2:30 - 4:00 PM

Please join us for a conversation with Dr. Debra L. McCurdy, the new President of Baltimore City Community College. Dr. McCurdy will discuss her vision for Baltimore City Community College, as well as its priorities, assets and challenges. Time will be allotted to engage in questions and discussion of ways Maryland Philanthropy Network members can collaborate or align with the College’s initiatives.

Dr. McCurdy became the 14th president for Baltimore City Community College on May 1, 2019. She replaces James H. Johnson Jr. Ph.D., who has served as interim president for the past 10 months following the retirement of Gordon May in July 2018. May served a four-year tenure as president.

McCurdy is a celebrated leader in higher education with more than 30 years of experience as an administrator. As president of Rhodes State College in Lima, Ohio, where she served as president for 11 years, she oversaw the transformation of the institution as it expanded its programs to include an associate of arts and associate of science degrees and successfully lead the College through its last two reaccreditation site visits. She also has extensive experience in realigning technical programs and expanding workforce development.

McCurdy previously served for nine years as provost and chief operating officer for the Dunwoody Campus at Georgia Perimeter College, and for seven years as an assistant and associate provost at Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta, Georgia. Earlier positions included serving as a Woodrow Wilson Fellow and vice president for academic affairs at Paul Quinn College in Dallas and as assistant dean of academic affairs at Brandeis University in Massachusetts.

McCurdy earned a Bachelor of Science, Master of Education and Doctorate from Bowling Green State University in Ohio. She has been a part of several national initiatives and has given her time to many community organizations and boards. She has also received numerous awards in recognition of her leadership.
