In 2001, we approached The Daily Record about increasing coverage of the nonprofit sector. Eleven years and 260 columns later, I find myself writing the final column.
I had the great pleasure of working with Maryland Philanthropy Network on the Next Generation Project this winter. Working closely with Betsy and Adam, I served as overall project manager. It was a wonderful way to connect my experience with Maryland Philanthropy Network as member of a local family foundation and my work as a social enterprise consultant.
After almost 65 years of making grants in the Baltimore area and elsewhere the Alvin and Fanny B. Thalheimer Foundation will spend down its remaining funds.

Organizations have their own life cycles.
It's hard to believe that the insights and observations of 26-year-old Alexis de Tocqueville recorded in 1831 are still relevant.
Last month, I was fortunate enough to attend the first of a four-part Redefining Capital series hosted by the Federal Reserve of Richmond/Baltimore Branch and a number of community partners — including, proudly, the Maryland Philanthropy Network.<
