Mary Spencer to Retire as President & CEO of the Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County at the End of 2025

The Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County (CFAAC) today announced that Mary Spencer will retire as President & CEO at the end of 2025. Since assuming leadership in 2018, Mary has overseen tremendous growth and impact, strengthening the Foundation’s role as a pillar of philanthropy in Anne Arundel County.

Under Mary’s leadership, CFAAC has grown its assets from $14 million to $43 million, raised over $68 million, and significantly expanded grantmaking efforts to support the community. Her tenure has been marked by a deep commitment to collaboration, increased visibility for CFAAC, and the development of strong relationships with donors, nonprofits, and community leaders.

“Leading the Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County has been one of the greatest honors of my life,” said Mary. “The work we have done together — our donors, partners, board, and staff — has created lasting impact, and I couldn’t be prouder of what we have accomplished. While stepping away is bittersweet, I know the Foundation is in a strong position to continue its incredible work. I look forward to focusing on my family, especially my 12 wonderful grandchildren, while remaining a steadfast supporter of this incredible organization.”

The CFAAC Board of Trustees will soon begin the search for Mary’s successor and is committed to ensuring a smooth and thoughtful transition.

“The impact Mary Spencer has had on this organization and our community cannot be overstated,” said Larry Clark, Chair of the Board of Trustees. “Her leadership has been transformative, strengthening CFAAC’s financial position, expanding its reach, and building a legacy of generosity that will benefit Anne Arundel County for generations to come. While we will deeply miss her leadership, we are grateful for the strong foundation she has laid and look forward to celebrating her many contributions in the months ahead.”

The Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County will share further details on the transition process in the coming weeks. In the meantime, Mary Spencer will continue leading CFAAC with the same dedication and passion that have defined her tenure.
