Green Funders Affinity Group

This peer group is focused on topics related to community greening, sustainability, and environmental protection. Group discussions are often cross-sectoral, examining the impact of environmental issues on community development, human health, or economic welfare. Participating members come from a wide range of grant-making backgrounds and diverse areas of expertise.

Green Funders Peer Learning Exchange with the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation

Join Maryland Philanthropy Network for a peer learning exchange for environmental/sustainability funders. We’re pleased to be joined by Program Officer, Deborah Philbrick of the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, who will speak with us about their Climate Solutions grantmaking. The goal of this “Big Bets” portfolio is to ensure that the Earth stays well below a two-degrees Celsius temperature increase to avoid catastrophic global effects. Hear about how this international funder thinks about its approach, priorities, and what they are learning. We’ll then discuss trends and opportunities you and other funders are seeing.

Join Maryland Philanthropy Network's Green Funders Affinity Group for a discussion with Michael Powell, Esq., Member of Gordon Feinblatt’s Energy & Environmental Practice Group, member of the Maryland Commission on Climate Change, and Co-Chair of the Mitigation Working Group, which is developing plans to meet Maryland’s greenhouse gas targets. The Climate Solutions Now Act and other new climate statutes, regulations, and programs will have profound impacts on philanthropic programs. Join us to discuss what these changes may entail for philanthropy and our support to nonprofits across Maryland. This session will include a short presentation and ample time for discussion.

Join Maryland Philanthropy Network for a peer learning exchange for funders supporting environmental and sustainability issues in Maryland! We take some time to integrate our learnings, share what we are thinking about and focusing on, and discuss our plans for the coming year. Lightly structured, these peer-to-peer exchange events are designed to integrate and learn from others in philanthropy through facilitation of the following: strategy sharing and exchange of ideas around what other funders are working on, stimulating new ways of thinking by sharing learnings and creating an environment conducive to discovery among the community of funders, and relationship building.
