Conversation with Dr. Renee Foose, Superintendent of Howard County Public Schools

The Maryland Philanthropy Network is pleased to host Dr. Renee A. Foose, Superintendent  of the Howard County Public School System.  

Dr. Foose made history when she became the first female Superintendent of the Howard County Public School System in July 2012. She leads the school district of more than 53,000 students and 8,100 employees with a $776.3 million budget, for 83 schools and facilities. Dr. Foose is credited with implementing numerous education initiatives aimed at closing the achievement gap and preparing children for college and the workforce. Dr. Foose is widely respected for her success in building collaborative rapport with stakeholders and union officials to implement reform efforts and increase teacher professional capacity.

Before joining the HCPSS, Dr. Foose served in various leadership roles in both Baltimore and Montgomery counties including deputy superintendent, associate superintendent, director of school performance, principal, and assistant principal. She began her career as a high school science teacher.
