Maryland Philanthropy Network Goes to Annapolis

Maryland Philanthropy Network Goes to Annapolis

Thursday, February 01, 2018, 9:45 AM - 2:00 PM

This is an opportunity for Maryland Philanthropy Network members to observe the legislative session and learn about the legislative process first hand. The purpose of Maryland Philanthropy Network Goes to Annapolis is for an educational experience with your peers.

The goals of the day are that Maryland Philanthropy Network members will:

  • Gain a sense of the scope and scale of the legislative process in Maryland;
  • Learn about the legislative process and participate in session; and
  • Learn more about the role of philanthropy in public policy.

This is not an issue-focused day in Annapolis, rather a day for broader education and learning about the legislative process.

Proposed Agenda:

  • 9:45 AM – Meet at the State House
  • 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM - Watch the legislative session in progress
  • 11:10 AM – 11:15 AM – Meet on State House Front Steps for walk to lunch (Please note: Light House Bistro is approximately half a mile away and is a nice, mostly flat, 10 minute walk.)
  • 11:25 AM - 12:40 PM - Lunch at Light House Bistro*
  • 12:45 - 1:00 PM - Walk to State Circle
  • 1:00 - 2:00 PM - Participate in hearings

Maryland Philanthropy Network will coordinate transportation/carpooling once registrations are received.

*Light House Bistro is a social enterprise in Annapolis. Social enterprises create revenue from selling goods and services in the open market. All profits are reinvested back into the mission of the organization benefiting people in need and the communities in which they live. The bottom line for The Light House Social Enterprise is employment for people experiencing homelessness. Read more about their story and check out the menu on their website

This program is for Maryland Philanthropy Network members and eligible grantmakers only. Lunch will be included in the day. Remote participation is not available.
